Mac and the Paracast

Last week, me and friends Patrick Huyghe of Anomalist Books, Paul Kimball of Red Star Films, and Project Beta author Greg Bishop did a pre-recorded, 2-hour interview with the guys at The Paracast.

The subject: to discuss the life, work, memories and shocking death of our friend and colleague, Mac Tonnies. We covered a lot of ground: such as the importance of Mac's research; his book The Cryptoterrestrials (which Mac was on the verge of completing at the time of his death, and which Patrick will be publishing); our memories of the man; and much more.

Check it out: Mac was definitely one of the most original thinkers within the UFO community, and we have lost a valuable friend and colleague - and his mom and dad have lost a son. So, today, spare a thought for Mac, and let's keep his legacy alive.

Mysteries in Massachusetts

This coming Saturday night, I’ll be lecturing on the subject of the Chupacabras at the annual Monster Mash gig at the Hibernian Hall in Watertown, Massachusetts. I’ll be doing an illustrated presentation about (a) my various expeditions to Puerto Rico in search of the beast; and (b) explaining my views on the so-called “Texas Chupacabras.”

And, if crashed UFOs are your thing too, the night before (also at the Hibernian Hall) I’ll be talking about my studies into all-things of a Roswell-like nature at the UFO Show. I spoke at both events last year, and a fine time was had by all.

Other speakers include Peter Robbins; Loren Coleman; John Horrigan; Jeff Belanger; and Chris Balzano. Also: Tim Binnall will be hosting a panel-discussion. Then, on the Sunday, there is a trip out to the Bridgewater Triangle - an area famed for its high-strangeness, including a wealth of weird beasts and unknown animals.

So, if you can get along, you’re guaranteed a cool time!

The Mass Mystery Weekend

For those of you who may want to attend, I'll be speaking at the annual Monster Mash at the Boston-based "Mass Mystery Weekend" on the night of Saturday, October 17. The subject of my lecture: my various trips to Puerto Rico in search of the Chupacabras.

I'll be showing lots of never-before-seen imagery of witnesses, locations and more, and discussing the highlights of my expeditions.

On the same evening, Loren Coleman will be speaking on the Abominable Snowman and Tom Slick; so a monstrous time should be had by all!

Conference Updates!

It's been more than a month since I last updated this blog, and so there are a few things to tell you about: two weeks ago, I gave a lecture on the very strange and surreal subject of "Stalin's Ape-Men" at the British-based Center for Fortean Zoology's annual Weird Weekend gig.

This past weekend I was speaking on the subject of the notorious Men in Black at the Weird 09 gig in Warminster, Wiltshire, England.

And on the weekend of September 11-13, I'll be lecturing at the 2009 Paranormal Symposium at Angel Fire, New Mexico. The subject: my various expeditions to Puerto Rico in search of the vampire-like Chupacabras.

Tonght's Radio

I'll be on Acceleration Radio with Bruce Collins tonight, where I'll be talking about my book There's Something in the Woods, as well as a host of other crypto-issues. The show runs from 5PM to 7PM Pacific Time.

Mysteries at Angel Fire

Last night four of the speakers - me, good mate Greg Bishop, Dennis Balthaser and Chuck Wade - did a round-table interview on Royce Holleman's Paranormal Palace Radio. After a few technical problems, we got a good debate going on a variety of topics of a Fortean nature.

After a minute or two of technical issues that kept cutting our phones off, the interview begins fine.

24 Hours of Strangeness!

A very special event is happening tomorrow: namely, the Shadows in the Dark 24hr Anniversary Bash live from the Ripley's Museum in St. Augustine, Florida. This is - as its name suggests, of course - a marathon, 24-hour-long series of radio interviews with a whole range of authors, researchers, writers and investigators within the realms of the paranormal and Forteana.

As you'll see, me and Linda Godfrey will be on the show from 3PM to 4PM, and the subject will be (what else?!) werewolves. Doubtless Linda will be updating the audience on her latest research, and I'll be discussing my werewolf investigations that appear in my book, There's Something in the Woods.

Weird 09: Interview

In August of this year, I’ll be speaking at the Weird 09 conference in England.

The organizers recently interviewed me for the official website of the gig, and which can be found online right here.

And as a taster, here’s an extract from the interview:

Nick: “I’m absolutely certain that the next 50 years will be the same as the previous 50 years. A lot of research will be done, a lot of theories will be discussed, a lot of books will be written, and a lot of people will shout very loudly at other people who disagree with them! I am also certain that 50 years from now, we still won’t know what UFOs are, and people will still be debating about bloody Roswell! The Triangles, the Greys, etc will probably be long gone, and replaced by…well…I’m not sure what. But I’m certain the alien ‘motif’ will be very different. Then again, I have no faith at all that the Human Race will survive much longer - I think we have passed the peak, and it’s pretty much down hill from here for the next couple of centuries. So, it may not matter; as 50 years from now there might not be many people left to care about the occasional weird thing seen in the sky! And if - as I believe - the UFO puzzle could well be Tulpa-based, if there’s no-one left to believe in UFOs or the Tulpas themselves, then they may slowly fade away and out of existence too.”

New Articles From Me

The new issue of Britain's Paranormal magazine is - I'm very pleased to say - absolutely packed with cryptozoological features! First, there is an article from well-known author Janet Bord titled Monstrous Man-Birds, and which covers such beasties as Mothman and Batsquatch. Then, there's Jon Downes dissecting the Owlman of England. Paranormal editor Richard Holland looks at the issue of ghostly-birds and birds of ill-omen. Karl Shuker poses the intriguing question: "Are UFOs living creatures - weird, luminous things drifting in the upper atmosphere?" And then there's a feature from me titled Man Into Monster - which is a study of legends of supernatural shape-shifting from man into an assortment of animals, including big-cats and hyenas. And, finally, there's a one-page rant from me explaining why I loathe those skeptical types who never actually get out into the field - but who prefer instead to pontificate from the comfort of their office or home on why they are so sure that Bigfoot, etc, do not exist. Enjoy!

Nope, I'm not secretly some weird cryptid creature that has the ability to be in two locations at once! The reality is far more down to earth, unfortunately!
